IAmA Zeddie Little, "Ridiculously Photogenic Guy"

Hello Reddit,

This is Zeddie Little, now known as "Ridiculously Photogenic Guy." As requested, I will be answering your questions, whatever they may be. I'm very excited to be a part of this interview and look forward to speaking with you all!

Do you own "Ridiculously Photogenic Dog"?

I don't own "the" photogenic dog, but I do own a good looking pup, seen here: https://twitter.com/#!/watkins_little/status/191224916559921155/photo/1

Her name is Jamma, she's about 3, and was a rescue at about 5 days old. I think she's a golden-chow mix. Best dog I could ever imagine.

Has your newfound fame resulted in any monetary gains (Big movie roles, book deals or tv commercials)? Do you hope it does?

I kid, I kid..

Nope. Brooks Running has been in touch, (I was photographed wearing their racing shoes and shorts) and we've been throwing around some ideas.

I haven't been too much in contact with agencies or whatever, but I'm not opposed to doing commercials/modeling/etc. I think it would be a new and fun experience.

I have, however, been contacted by the John Ritter Foundation to run the NYC marathon this year. I'll be running to raise awareness for Aortic Health. I am really glad they contacted me to do it.

What is the best thing that has come from this overnight fame?

I have to say, I really enjoy being part of such a good joke. I was noticed by an older woman around 70 or so in the grocery store on Saturday and she was ecstatic, saying, "I saw you on my TV!"

As well, I'm completely honored to be approached by the John Ritter Foundation for Aortic Health to run the NYC marathon. Any way I can promote healthy living and such positivity is really humbling.

Has anyone recognized you as RPG?

Starting this past Friday, the 13th, people have really started noticing me. It's still a new experience - people knowing you from a random picture. It's all been in good fun, which is cool.

I went running throughout the City last night and a couple people yelled at me throughout my run.

What do you do in real life? (job/hobbies/etc) Also, you're pretty.

I bartend at a restaurant in NYC and I manage web content and PR material for a pretty rad music venue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Hobbies: I like running, listening to too much music, and am really into the NYC food scene -- I cooked for about 6 years and a little here in the City, and I just can't shake the bug i have for cooking/eating/learning about food and gastronomy.

Are you prepared for the title "Sexiest Man Alive 2012" by the People magazine?

Haha! I'm pretty sure I'm miles away from even being a contender, nor would I ever expect it.

I dont think you understand the power of Reddit...

Ok, I'll give it a shot?

Is Zeddie short for something else? Or is that just your actual name, making you possibly the greatest person ever to have lived? Apart from Benedict Cumberbatch.

I'm not sure. I am one of several Zeddies in a line of generations. It might be a southern thing?

What is your hair-care regimen?

Oh man, I kinda saw this one coming, haha. Just shampoo, maybe conditioner, no particular brand or whatever. Its really thin so I just use wax/pomade from Keihl's (product placement?). And once in a while go to a cool barber called Freeman's.

Freeman's in Manhattan, the little barber connected to the restaurant and clothing boutique?

yep

[No question]

Hey guys, I just want to say I'm having a ton of fun doing this interview.

Thanks to all of you for making this random picture such a phenomenon. It would most likely have gone entirely unnoticed without the your collective powers here.

I'll start answering more questions, and quicker. Just been getting a feel for this.

Thanks you all so much, again!

[deleted]

I'm having fun! Thanks!

Welcome to Reddit, Zeddie! Here's your complimentary Etch A Sketch portrait. Video here.

How's your day going?

Rad! Thanks for the likeness!

How did you first react when you found out you picture went viral? How has it affected your life?

I got a call from Redditor friends about 4 hours after the images was initially posted on the internet. They were saying I was number one on Reddit, and gave no explanation, so I assumed whatever it was was really bad, but I was racking my brain as to what it could have been.

When I finally saw the photo I laughed for about an hour. It was just surreal. It's still surreal.

Your username contains a tautology.

Haha, someone set this profile up for me in order to do the AMA.

Did you know what Reddit was before all of this? If not, who was it that broke the news to you of your internet fame?

I knew of Reddit and sort of how it worked, but nowhere near this directly.

Can I have this?

What's your favorite meme of yourself?

It got to a point where it felt weird looking at a billion pics of mysef, so I might have missed out on any recent ones within the past week or so.

There are a ton of great ones. Off the top of my head, I like the "Record Milk Sales" one, the creepy Wolverine one and definitely the RPG photoshopped into the North By Northwest airplane scene.

What has been your friend's/family's reaction to all this? did you know of memes before you became an internet sensation?

They love it. My dad was so proud he would have given away my complete biography, complete with SSN to a journalist until I had to ask him to dial it back a little bit, haha.

Yeah, I've always found memes funny, but never, ever though I'd BECOME one. Bizarre.

  1. Do people notice you in public?
  2. What was your first reaction when you realized millions of people knew your face?
  3. How did ABC contact you?
  4. Has this popularity gotten you a job?
  5. How have your family, friends and co-workers (if you have a job) reacted?
  6. Do you like the popularity?
  7. Do you actively run marathons? It seemed you were quite adamant about your next Marathon.
  8. Have you and the man who took the photograph talked at all? Or was your only contact during that short interview?
  9. Do you frequent reddit?
  10. Take a picture of your girlfriend, lets see if she's as photogenic as you :)
  1. Recently, yes, kinda frequently.
  2. "Really? Wha?"
  3. Through my family.
  4. No, though I'll take offers, haha.
  5. Everyone is enjoying it. It's a joke everyone can have fun with.
  6. I don't not like it. It's funny having people recognizing me, and for smiling in a photo, so I can't complain, ya know?
  7. Spoiler: It wasn't a marathon, it was a 10K. And no, I've never ran a marathon, so the offer from the Riter Foundation kinda solidified my commitment to actually run one.
  8. Yeah, I talked with him a few days before and arranged to have ABC fly him up for the GMA interview, I didn't want to go on alone. We still talk daily.
  9. Not really, but now I will start. There's some cool stuff on here, for sure.
  10. Nah.

Who's your favorite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle?

Michaelangelo. Duh.

To date, what's the most awkward encounter you've had with someone who has recognized you?

Nothing yet...

So, when was the last time you paid for anything at a bar?

Always, I guess.

What was your time for the marathon?

The run was a 10K, I've yet to run a marathon, though.

My chip time was 47:16 I believe.

How do you view your famous picture? Normally most people doesn't like their own photos, would you say " yep. That's definitely a ridicoulous good photo". I'm really interested how you like your picture :)

Regardless of who the subject is, Will King took a great photo. I've told Will, the photographer, that as well.

How does it feel to be the only person on the planet to be accidentally internet famous for good reasons?

Good, really. Thanks for liking me guys! It's still just a crazy experience, but I'm having fun with it.

Do you have an unflattering photo of yourself? And if not, can you just acknowledge my existence?

Edit: there aren't enough reactiongifs in the world

I'm sure I have plenty. I haven't been one to take many pictures, honestly.

Who broke the news to you, that you were suddenly e-famous?

My phone was bombarded around 5pm that Monday it was posted by Redditor friends.

Do you realize how many straight men you turned gay?

I do not. Really?

have you had any modelling job offers?

Nope. I'm not against it, though.

How did you do in the race?

I did ok. The race started an hour late, and it was really hot by the time it was underway. I've had better runs, I'd think.

How have you survived on reddit with that username?

I had a Redditor friend set up an account with this name, just a placeholder I guess. I was unfamiliar with using reddit other than just reading it, before this AMA.

Was the picture just an accident, or did you see the camera and smiled at just the right time?

Total fluke. My friend was among the crowd while I was running. They were behind me, actually, and as I turned around I guess I looked straight into a camera lens.

Did you know that you were always so "Ridiculously Photogenic"?

I've never thought of myself as "photogenic". I've heard people say it before, and I've always just said "Thanks?", thinking nothing of it.

What's your PR for the mile? If you run the NYC Marathon, what time do you see yourself realistically running?

What has been the most difficult race of your running career? Why?

I dont really time myself, honestly. I'll just try to go faster or further than the last run, depending. I have never been competitive, so I guess that's why. This was the second official "race" I've run. I like running as an individual activity as well, but I want to enter in some more races.

I just hope to complete the marathon, hopefully without having to walk and under 4 hours, I gues

What is your favourite burger!? Also....... Heathens......

Ooh, good question, sir. I really like the Grass Fed burger at Back Forty in the East Village in NYC.

Did you know how to spell "ridiculously" before this meme?

I would time and again, and I was actually wondering the correct spelling of it like a day before this all broke. I had a tendency to start by spelling it as "re.."

Were you nervous about going on TV? Or did you just enjoy the experience?

I've had stage fright in the past, but with TV, there's not really a visible audience to make you nervous. I just got lost in the lights and started going with it.

Notice me and make my shitty day into a wonderful one :|

Hi there!

2 part question: what's your favorite breakfast and can I stay the night?

  1. Eggs benedict. Classic.
  2. Can you poach an egg?

If you could be any kind of tree, what kind of tree would you be?

Cypress. I grew up in the south around a lot of Cypress trees. Their root structure is interesting, too.

How does it feel to have single-handedly crashed the reddit servers?

Did I? Craziness.

Good morning from Australia! Have you met or had any contact with the person who took the photograph?

Yep, I speak with him frequently, and we went on Good Morning America together.

Where are you from?

I grew up in Charleston, SC.

Hi, Mr. Little, congratulations on your recent Internet fame. =] if I may, could I ask what kind of music do you like to listen to? Thank you for your time, and sorry if this was asked like fifty times. =]

Anything, really. A lot of underground/alternative/indie stuff, and ambient. Throughout this AMA I have been listening to the new Spiritualized and Lotus Plaza albums.

You seem to also be in ownership of a ridiculously photogenic dog. Is this a coincidence, or did you specifically get that dog because it is photogenic?

Got the dog when she was like 10 days old, so I had no clue what she'd look like!

Mother. Of. God.

?

[No question]

Ok everyone, I am going to call it a night.

I really really had a fun time. I hope I answered some solid questions and hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did.

Again, I want to thank all of you for this opportunity and catapulting my likeness to world renown. I;ve said it before, but it's all so surreal and greatly appreciated.

Looks like I'm now a Redditor! I might change the name, but who knows.

Thank you again for a great time!

Good night! Zeddie

if you'd like, follow me @watkins_little

I'm so ridiculously late I'm sure this will never get answered, but that picture was awesome and from what I've heard you're a damned nice guy. Just wanted to ask, did you even have any idea there was a camera there when you were running?

I had no clue at all.

This might seem extremely direct and inappropriate, but how much money/business did you get because of this meme?

None, so far.

[deleted]

yep, near the start, by Bacco on Coleman.

Looks like you're still answering questions in here from time to time...

Just curious, you said earlier that you wear Brooks running shoes, which ones do you wear? (I'm a fan of Brooks myself)

T7 racers and PureConnect. My first pair of Brooks was the Trance 6.

This interview was transcribed from an "ask me anything" question and answer session with Zeddie Little conducted on Reddit on 2012-04-16. The Reddit AMA can be found here.
